Claude adds personal finance tool that reads your bank data

Anthropic’s Claude can now connect to bank and credit‑card accounts via Plaid to answer spending questions, in a read‑only beta for US Pro, Max and Ultra users.

According to TechCrunch, Anthropic announced that Claude now includes a Personal Finance tool. Users can link bank and credit‑card accounts through Plaid and ask Claude about balances, transactions and spending patterns. The access is read‑only, so the AI cannot move, manage or invest the money.

The tool can summarise monthly spending by category, flag duplicate charges, unexpected fees and rising bills, and explain financial terms such as APR. Claude will not use the conversation data to train its models, and it does not show ads or push its own financial products.

Personal Finance rolls out this week in beta to US users on Claude’s Pro, Max and Ultra plans. The feature puts Claude in direct competition with OpenAI’s similar ChatGPT finance add‑on launched in May.

Why it matters to your business

For founder‑led businesses, cash‑flow visibility is essential. Claude’s ability to pull transaction data and highlight unusual charges can help you spot waste, negotiate better supplier terms or correct billing errors quickly.

Because the tool is read‑only and does not train on your queries, it offers a low‑risk way to gain insights without exposing your data to advertising or product upsell pressure.

What to do on Monday

  • If you already use Claude Pro, Max or Ultra, enable the Personal Finance add‑on and link your business accounts via Plaid.
  • Run a quick “where did my money go this month?” query to get a category breakdown and flag any unexpected expenses.
  • Compare the output with your internal accounting reports to verify accuracy and identify any cost‑saving opportunities.
