Altron and Karooooo have outpaced their JSE tech peers in 2026. Altron’s share closed at R27.91, up 49% year‑to‑date, while Karooooo’s rose to R1,065.45, a 41% gain. Both companies operate in vehicle and asset tracking, but Altron also runs a diversified Platforms division that delivers high‑margin recurring revenue.

Altron’s profit after tax grew 32% to R816 million, and it paid a 44% larger ordinary dividend plus a special cash dividend. Karooooo benefitted from a surge in subscription revenue, especially in Southeast Asia, where its subscriber base grew 41% after moving its headquarters to Singapore.

Why it matters to your business

For founder‑led businesses, the results show the value of recurring‑revenue models and geographic diversification. High‑margin platform services can boost profitability even when one‑off sales dip.

Both firms demonstrated that shedding under‑performing assets, Altron’s exit from Altron Nexus, can improve the bottom line and free cash for dividends, a useful lesson for companies looking to optimise their portfolios.

What to do on Monday

  • Review your revenue streams and identify which can be converted to subscription‑based models.
  • Assess any non‑core assets that may be weighing down cash flow and consider divestiture.
  • Benchmark your dividend policy against peers to ensure it reflects sustainable earnings growth.
